From Fine Dining
to a Finer Mission

"The French Goat closed its doors on January 8, 2026. Something better opened in its place."

For more than a decade, The French Goat was Lewisburg's most beloved dining room — a place where French cuisine met Appalachian warmth inside the walls of Maison Marcel, a manor house that has stood on Lafayette Street since the 1800s.

When difficult economic conditions forced the restaurant to close, something remarkable happened. The building didn't go dark. It found its highest purpose — becoming the headquarters of The PROVENIQ Foundation, a public health nonprofit, and the home of a dining experience unlike anything in West Virginia.

The French Goat still serves the food it always has. But now every reservation is an act of mission. Every table supports something that matters.

The Cuisine

Classic French technique rooted in the traditions of the bistro — French onion soup, canard à l'orange, house-made pâtés, and a wine list that favors Burgundy and Bordeaux. Seasonal menus. Always exceptional.

The Setting

Maison Marcel dates to the 1800s. Its rooms are intimate — never more than four tables — with the kind of quiet that lets conversation breathe. The garden terrace opens when the evenings allow. The fireplace burns in winter.
